Dr. John Astles (retired)
Dr. John Astles graduated from the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry in 1980. Shortly after this, he opened his optometry practice at 801 Hamilton Road. In 1998, the practice was moved to its current location at 999 Hamilton Road where it became East London Optometry.
In 1994, he successfully completed an extensive course in ocular disease management from Northeastern College of Optometry. John is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO). He has served on the OAO board of directors as board lead for advocacy. He has also served for several years as the chairperson of the OAO’s political action campaign team. In 2006 he received the Public Education Award of Merit for his efforts to help rectify inequities affecting eye care.
John has two children. His interest include skiing, cycling, hiking, and cooking. In November 2019 Dr. Astles retired from practicing optometry.
